Surprise Trail

Eat Less/Move More

Spring is truly here in full force in the Jersey Pines. The woods are alive with the brilliant green of new growth. The chipmunks are out of hibernation. Our wild male turkey is strutting his stuff to any female who will pay attention. And the hummingbirds are back! The outdoor temperatures are warming up and it's time to shed our winter woolens.

With this warming trend comes the promise of summer; my absolute favorite time of the year! EXCEPT; that that means wearing less clothes which means showing more skin... which for me translates into...uh, oh! That's because while in hibernation during our unusually snowy winter, I'm afraid I packed on a few more pounds than I'm comfortable with. And I'm not too keen on strutting my stuff with this newly-acquired poundage.

Now that I'm a Boomer Chick in my 50's, shedding those few pounds is  simply not as easy as it used to be. I've dabbled with various diets yet as any good nutritionist will tell you, they really don't work. It is my hopeful intention to stay healthy and playful well into my 90's and if that's going to happen, I need to take a little  better care of this incredible miraculous machine that I'm privileged to inhabit and choose different ways to be successful.   I truly believe that if I just make some simple changes and become more aware and intentional about what I consume, I'll be on the right track. With that said, I'm ready to adopt my new mantra:  EAT LESS/MOVE MORE, which means simply...I will pay much closer attention to portion size and get my butt moving even more than I'm already doing.

What about YOU? Maybe you're one of the lucky ones  who consistently maintains a healthy weight and portion intake.   Yet, if you're like the many millions of us out there; you, too, may need to make a few positive changes to live a healthier lifestyle. It does not need to be a huge change. One simple tweak or taking one little step may be all you need to begin this process thus renewing your motivation and enthusiasm.  Are you ready?

Challenge at the Trailhead
What is ONE easy adjustment that you are willing to make this week that will begin your own process towards eating less and moving more? Keeping it simple and taking baby steps will make it easier to stay on track. Here's a process you may find helpful:

  •  Identify what your most realistic and fun goal is regarding your current physical lifestyle.
  • What habit can you put into place to make this challenge easier?
  • What might you add to your life to make getting there quicker and easier? What might you take away?
  • Who can you reach out to who has accomplished a similar goal?
  •
What will be most helpful to YOU if  you decide to
Eat Less and Move More?  Please share what you come up with!
