In this issue:

Steppin’ Out

Welcome to April-a month of renewal and the return of sun and warmth!

I missed you last month! I was on the road again and incommunicado when it was time to send out the March Trailhead. This particular journey brought me to the wild, vast, and stunningly beautiful landscape of Tanzania, in East Africa. Once I get my 20+ CD’s of photos organized, I’ll decrease the numbers then put up my favorites for anyone out there interested in perusal.

As much as I love to travel, an interesting thing happened when this particular getaway was presented to me. My sister, Barbara, along with some other friends and colleagues had been planning this trip for a while. My brother-in law, Richard, for varied reasons decided to opt out of the adventure so Barb graciously invited me to take his place.  Rather than jumping for the opportunity, I initially resisted Big Time! I had many reasons why NOT to go: it was too long a trip, it was too far away, I had too many work situations to rearrange, I did not relish being in a large group, and on and on and on. My “inner resister” was working overtime on this one!

The short of it is that once I finally accepted the invitation and actually took the journey, it was a most amazing adventure with indelible memories that will last a lifetime.

It solidified for me the thought that getting away from our everyday routine is such an important investment to our well- being. When we allow ourselves to step out of our regular life; for an hour, a day, a week, or more, positive things can occur. That conscious stepping out often causes us to:

And the cool thing is that you don’t have to travel halfway around the globe to make those things happen. I know that I am satiated when I get to zip to my favorite beach for an afternoon or take that hour walk to my beloved woods down the road. I truly believe that “Steppin Out” of our daily routine reaps benefits that will continue reward us in our life’s journey. What about YOU?

Challenge at the Trailhead:

I know I frequently mention the importance of stepping out of your regular life. I truly believe that taking a break or getaway is first and foremost in reenergizing and even finding clarity or closure around something that’s been on your mind…when you weren’t even looking!  Give it a try this week or this month…keep your own “inner resister” at bay and step out of your regular routine for a bit…and notice your feelings. Where will you go? What will you do? (Or not do?) Plan a vacation? Take off for an afternoon for a walk in your favorite environment?  Keep me posted…I’d love to hear what you’re up to!
